Dr. J. C. Dyson, Sr., Ph.D, Th.D

The General Secretary shall compile the official record of the Annual Session and the February, May, and November Conferences/Board Meetings of this Convention, and shall perform such other duties as directed by the President.

Dr. J. C. Dyson, Sr. serves as Pastor of two historic churches in the Greater New Orleans Metropolitan area, Holy Faith Temple “The Treme Church” located in the historic Treme community at 1325 Gov. Nicholls Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, where he has served for twenty –four years, and The Third Emanuel Baptist Church located at 187 Third Emanuel Street in Bridge City Louisiana (West Bank - Jefferson Parish) where he has severed as Senior Pastor eighteen years. 

Dr. Dyson is the sixth President of the historic Ideal Missionary Baptist and Educational Association, Incorporated, Established 1937, Treasure of the Louisiana Baptists State Convention Entertainment Host Committee; General Secretary of the Louisiana Missionary Baptist State Convention, 1st Vice President of the Baptist Conference of New Orleans and Vicinity, and Chaplin of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Gamma Rho Chapter of New Orleans.

Dr. Dyson has also served on a national platform as the Louisiana State President, of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and SCLC Executive Board Member, and served as Immediate Past Vice-President of Association of Graduate Students in Counseling (University of Holy Cross College); Immediate Past Board Secretary of the Jefferson Parish Community Health Centers; served as the first African American Commissioned Chaplain of the New Orleans Police Department, and he has served as a Board member of New Orleans Creative Arts School (NOCCA).   Pastor Dyson also serves on numerous civic and community boards and committees

Dr. Dyson has traveled the breath and length of the United States of America preaching and teaching God’s word which   includes preaching in the Louisiana State Baptist Convention and presenting in the National Ministers Prayer Breakfast, Washington DC.

Dr. Dyson is a retired educator and administrator of the New Orleans Public Schools.  He began his employment with the New Orleans Public Schools in 1985 and retired in 2006.  Dr. Dyson retired as a Captain of the New Orleans Police Department in 2012 after serving 27 years.  Dr. Dyson worked as an employee of the Jefferson Parish Juvenile Services Department, providing counseling services for the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office in the Pre-Trial Diversion from 2012 to 2018.  At present Dr. Dyson serves as Chief of Probation/Division Head, Baton Rouge, Louisiana City Court.

Dr. Dyson is a graduate of University of Holy Cross - New Orleans, where he received his B.S.- Specializing in Applied Behavioral Science, M.A.- Specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and PhD., Doctor of Counselor Education and Supervision. He received his Th.D., Doctor of Theology from Trinity Christian College/Seminar – NEW YORK

 Pastor Dyson’s most prize possession is the Spirit of Christ and anointing of God, in which directs his path.  He is most proud to have been given the opportunity to exclaim the good news of Jesus the Christ. He often states if I am to be remembered at all it is by helping those who are in need, loving those who who hate and comforting those who are lonely.
